Stepping Out: Public Art & Placemaking for Any Artist

Intermediate & Advanced  CLASS IS CLOSED
October 1 & 2, 2020-Thursday and Friday-2 Sessions
11:00 am-4:00 pm
Instructor: Lisa Tuttle
Class Fee:   $240.00 non-members + $10 Supply Fee
              $216.00 BRMAA members + 10 Supply Fee
There is a lot of energy now around community-engaged public art projects such as murals, temporary installations, alternative signage, urban interventions and transit cards.  Cool projects are popping up everywhere, with calls for artist from municipalities, transit systems, festivals, botanical gardens and parks across the country.  Commercial developers are seeking public art projects as well, both interior and exterior.  The Instructor will guide the students in the prospect of public art opportunities.  Each student will consider an expansion from studio practice to the public realm, receive a list of valuable resources, materials, fabricators, bibliography and contacts.  Students will see dynamic examples of contemporary public art practices and engagement, with a variety of budgets.  The Instructor will clue artists in on the differences and similarities between the role of studio artist and the public artist. This class will show the student how to develop their own project proposal and a plan for a community-based public art project.  A suggested supply list is offered upon registering.  Students are welcome to bring a sack lunch for a brief break both days.
