October 1 & 2, 2020-Thursday and Friday-2 Sessions 11:00 am-4:00 pm Instructor: Lisa Tuttle Class Fee: $240.00 non-members + $10 Supply Fee $216.00 BRMAA members + 10 Supply Fee There is a lot of energy now around community-engaged public art projects such as murals, temporary installations, alternative signage, urban interventions and transit cards. Cool projects are popping up everywhere, with calls for artist from municipalities, transit systems, festivals, botanical gardens and parks across the country. Commercial developers are seeking public art projects as well, both interior and exterior. The Instructor will guide the students in the prospect of public art opportunities. Each student will consider an expansion from studio practice to the public realm, receive a list of valuable resources, materials, fabricators, bibliography and contacts. Students will see dynamic examples of contemporary public art practices and engagement, with a variety of budgets. The Instructor will clue artists in on the differences and similarities between the role of studio artist and the public artist. This class will show the student how to develop their own project proposal and a plan for a community-based public art project. A suggested supply list is offered upon registering. Students are welcome to bring a sack lunch for a brief break both days. Class is Closed

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORInstructor:
Lisa Tuttle Lisa Tuttle is an artist and curator based in Atlanta. Her artwork samples literary, historical and archival materials and has been described as “…poetic conceptualism”. Her mixed media artworks, public art projects, digital prints, works on paper and textiles layer historical research, contemporary and archival photographs, text and illustrations. Tuttle has worked as an arts administrator for 35 years, including as Gallery Director for the Atlanta College of Art; Co-Artistic and Visual Arts Director, Arts Festival of Atlanta, and Public Art Program Coordinator, Fulton County Arts and Culture Tuttle has completed several public art projects, including Harriet Rising, in collaboration with Alice Lovelace, commissioned by the City of Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs Public Art Program and Underground Atlanta. The project received recognition from Americans for the Arts Public Art Network 2012 Year-in-Review award as one of the top 50 public art projects in the country. The Lisa Tuttle Studio is at The ArtsXchange in East Point. Her artworks are in the permanent collections of Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia, the City of Atlanta, Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Federal Reserve Bank, Jerusalem House and Fulton County Arts & Culture as well as numerous private collections.
