                     $45.00 BRMAA members  + $15 Supply Fee
In this class, students will discover the Appalachian history of Barn Quilts painted on wood.  This movement created Barn Quilt Trails where one can drive through a designated area and see multiple barn quilt patterns on sides of barns throughout the country.   The student will learn heritage quilt patterns and create a quilt pattern based on a modern technique for painting a barn quilt with chalk mineral paint.  The Instructor will demonstrate how to create the quilt square using paints, stains, waxes and sealers.  The student will complete a wooden 16X16 quilt square.  The Instructor will supply all the materials needed for the class.  We recommend students registering by September 9, 2021 to assist us in pre-ordering of class supplies.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Picture
Instructor: Barbara McMillan
Barbara McMillan currently lives and teaches in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.  After 25 years of owning a business, she and her husband decided to "take life a bit easier" and sell their business in Florida and relocate to North Carolina.  After taking  a class at John C. Campbell Folk School,  Barbara was inspired by her instructor to pursue her arts education and began one on one classes with her JCC Folk School instructor.  Several years later, she had the opportunity to teach at a local art studio and continues to teach classes on a weekly basis to students.  Barbara has taken up a new love, chalk mineral painting with furniture and barn quilts.  By using chalk mineral paint, she creates unique textures and soft coloring to design artistic and functional pieces.  Barbara wants to share her knowledge of the endless possibilities and "how it is done" to all her students.
