Through a series of still life, landscape and figure drawing exercises, students will practice using this very versatile medium to create successful works of art. Drawing techniques include line quality, shading, using value to create contrast, using blending tools and erasers to create texture, and measuring concepts to lay out a composition. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Picture
With a life-long interest in creative expression, Katie started taking art lessons as a child and in high school in Marietta, Georgia. She has a minor in Art History and concentration in Studio Art from UNC-Chapel Hill and took classes for five years at Old World Art in Atlanta. She has taught art lessons to children and adults for almost 20 years and moved to Ellijay, Georgia, in late 2021. In the North Georgia mountains that she has loved since she was a child, she leads art classes and workshops, paints the countryside in oil paint, draws charcoal portrait commissions, and makes mosaic jewelry.
Katie finds inspiration for her artwork and lessons while hiking, running,
practicing yoga, and exploring the beautiful mountain landscape around Blue Ridge. Her goal as an instructor is to encourage her students to experiment with various media, to ignite their own innate creative spark, and to develop the artistic skills necessary to create successful artwork.
