This unique class is working with techniques and tools for the modeling of animals and people in sugar. Once finished you can eat your sugar masterpiece or place it atop your most fantastic cake creation. Using fondant and marzipan, students will learn how to create animals and human figures. Sculpting techniques, tools, and sources of supplies will all be covered. The student will be making one of kind artworks. The first session focuses on sugar sculptures of animals and cartoon characters. During the second week the student will make people. The Instructor will supply marzipan, fondant, edible glue, gum paste, food coloring, and plastic gloves. There will be modeling tools available to use for a sugar creation. Bring a relative or friend and learn a new art form you can create in the kitchen!

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Kathy Thompson taught art for 37 years including sculpting in clay, wood, paper mache, and wax. Since retiring she and her grandchildren have taken up sculpting sugar-based animals and figures for their entry in the National Gingerbread Contest at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC. The team of grandchildren she coaches have earned second place twice. In addition, she has taken classes at Cake Art in Atlanta.
