Barn structures from another era inspires many artists. Capturing the light, color, texture, mood and perspective is key to a successful painting. The class objective is to learn how to paint an accurate but lively watercolor painting that captures the unique character of an old barn. Some previous experience with basic watercolor techniques is recommended. Instructor and students will paint the same image step-by-step. The student will do a preliminary sketch to plan shapes, values, and colors. Then the student will transfer the sketch to the painting surface using a grid. The student will complete an 8X10 watercolor painting displayed in an 11X14 mat ready for framing. Techniques learned are drawing tips for structures and how to draw proper perspective, render textures, mix and use neutral colors, and capture dramatic light and darks. Instructor provides watercolor and sketching supplies for use during class.
