Artist in Residence Presents: Oil Painting Spring Florals and Landscapes (En Plein Air)

Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced
May 17, 2025
1 Session (Saturday)

10:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Instructor: Rachel Eichholtz
Class Fee: $130.00 non-members + $20.00 supply fee
             $105.00 BRMAA members + $20.00 supply fee

Join our 2nd Quarter Artist in Residence, Rachel Eichholtz, as she teaches how to fuel your creativity by getting rid of judgment. The ability to generate ideas and capture a scene quickly is essential to all artists from beginner to advanced. All levels are welcome here! One-minute thumbnail sketches will challenge you to capture the subject as you experience it without any judgment of your abilities. We will begin in the classroom with a brief introduction and demonstration before sending everyone en plein air to paint. This class will take place rain or shine. If the sun is out, we will paint en plein air capturing early spring in Downtown Blue Ridge. If it is raining buckets, we will paint spring floral and/or landscapes inside. If you have struggled with the confidence to capture beautiful moments, this class is for you. Learn how to capture the scene quickly without restraining yourself with perfection and have fun in your creative process. Students may or may not complete their artwork as the key deliverable of this workshop is a new mindset to the creative process. The intention is to learn something new rather than to create a perfect, finished work. However, the class supply list will be provided so that students can continue working after the class is over. Rachel will do a brief demonstration at the beginning of the workshop and remain available throughout the remaining time for help and guidance as students continue painting.

ABOUT THE ARTIST AND INSTRUCTOR

Picture
As an impressionist painter from Rome, Georgia, I am determined to share the beauty of creation through my oil paintings. I am a member of Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society, and the Booth Artist Guild.
Lately, plein air painting has been my favorite way to connect with the subject and my community. During my long runs, I like to keep a mint tin in my backpack and pause for a quick study of the landscape. On race day I may be at the start line with you, or you may find me painting at the top of the steepest climb. I believe we should be stopped in our tracks in wonder of creation more often. I share my artwork so that others can see the beauty of their Creator in their surroundings, in others, and in themselves.
