Take part in a creative learning environment that will enhance your plein air experience with renowned artist R. Gregory Summers. Workshop objectives are to learn to see and think landscape art and all that it encompasses. The workshop will cover composition, values, color, temperatures in painting on location, using a limited pallet and highlight the techniques of color mixing, seeing less, and painting quickly to capture the essence of the scenes. Workshop includes one on one instruction, demos and group critiques. Students can bring their lunches. Supply List which will be provided upon registering. Students need to be prepared for outside painting. Space is limited; please contact the Art Center directly for workshop information and registration.

The 2018 Fall Plein Air Event, in conjunction with the 16th Annual International Worldwide Artist Paint Out, offers four days of art and adventure in the North Georgia Mountains. Recently designated as one of the top five Art Towns in Georgia by Georgia Council for the Arts and the Georgia Municipal Association, Blue Ridge provides a multitude of opportunities to capture the spirit of plein air art. The 2018 Fall Plein Air Event provides a master workshop, a quick draw event and county-wide paint outs, all which culminates in the Fall Plein Air awards and exhibit on Sunday.
The 2018 Fall Plein Air Event is an open invitation to all artists, amateur and professional, to paint the natural beauty of our area. Artists are welcome to bring their easels and capture the awe-inspiring scenes of Fannin County & Blue Ridge, Georgia. This year’s event will offer a special workshop Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with renowned plein air artist R. Gregory Summers. Additionally, we are continuing our quick draw event for awards at the picturesque Serenberry Vineyards on Friday afternoon.
Opportunities to surround yourself with the natural beauty of our area are endless, with our master workshop and 'quickdraw' event help to encourage the unique and incredible culture that is Plein Air Art!
In 2018, cash prizes totaling over $1000 will be awarded to those who participate in the various opportunities available throughout our Fall event. Participants must be 18 years or older to submit for prizes and awards.
The Plein Air Awards Ceremony will be held Sunday, September 9th at 5pm and is open to the public. All works available from this event will be for sale.
The 2018 Plein Air Exhibit to follow and will be on display at the Art Center through October 14th, 2018. All artwork on display will be exhibited at the Art Center during the 2018 Fall Arts in the Park festival, which estimates over 7,000 attendees in two days.
