ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR JOYCE CLAIR![]() Joyce Clair has a passion for painting with transparent watercolors. Most of her paintings are completed outdoors or “en plein air” in the beautiful north Georgia mountains. She initiated the “Plein Air Painters of Hiawassee Georgia,” a group of local painters who paint together regularly. Join our group on face book if interested in participating.
Her representational impressionist style is influenced by watercolor master, Ed Whitney (1891-1987). Joyce studied watercolor painting for two years under Dr. Morris Green of the Maryland Institute of Art. Dr. Green was a former student of watercolor master, Ed Whitney. She also attended watercolor workshops with Zoltan Szabo, Tom Lynch, Frank Webb, and Skip Lawrence, many of whom studied under Ed Whitney as well. Joyce also took drawing and photography classes at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C. Joyce grew up in Pennsylvania and lived in Maryland and Texas before moving to Georgia. Since retiring from her Nurse Practitioner career, Joyce devotes most of her time to painting and teaching watercolor, alcohol inks, and drawing. She teaches private and group classes at Artworks in Hiawassee, Georgia, Murphy Art Center in North Carolina, Blue Ridge Mountains Art Center in Blue Ridge, Georgia, Gilmer Arts in Ellijay, Georgia, and ICL at Young Harris College, Young Harris, Georgia .
