ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
JOYCE CLAIR

Picture
Joyce is a retired nurse practitioner who has enjoyed watercolor painting for over 30 years. She teaches watercolor painting, alcohol ink painting, and a variety of crafts. Her classes are designed to be fun and easy for beginners. She hopes to inspire students to continue painting and to enjoy the creative process by being fearless and playful.
After growing up in Pennsylvania, Joyce lived in Maryland and Texas before retiring to the Georgia mountains. Joyce paints mostly outdoors (en plein air) or from her landscape and flower photos. She paints with transparent watercolor pigments only and her style is representational that leans toward impressionism.
Joyce is influenced by watercolor master, Ed Whitney (1891-1987) and workshops with Skip Lawrence, Tom Lynch, Zoltan Szabo and Frank Webb. She attended weekly classes for 2 years with Dr. Morris Green, Maryland College of Art & Design. Joyce also took drawing and photography classes at the Corcoran School of Art, Washington, DC.
Painting with alcohol inks is another creative pursuits Joyce enjoys.  She applies colorful ink to a variety of surfaces such as yupo paper, ceramic tile, glass, silk, and metal. Fabric and fiber crafts occupies her evening hours while watching television. Joyce’s paintings and crafts are displayed at ArtWorks in Hiawassee, the Murphy Art Center, and the Blue Ridge Mountains Art Association. Classes are held at these locations as well. Follow   “Joyce Clair Art” on face book for posts of her works, group plein air outings, and upcoming classes.        .
