Instructor: Micah Goguen
Class Fee: $175.00 non-members

What a great class to learn a new technique! This two day workshop demonstrates how to build depth and texture to your painting using different substrates. The Instructor will provide items such as collage papers, pastes, inks and other materials to show the student how to build different surfaces for a layered and textured painting. The objective of this workshop is to intuitively build depth and texture using basic color theories and composition. Students will be given a variety of substrates so that they may try a few different texture techniques. Students will have up to 7 different pieces to explore and work with. The student will explore 5 or more texture methods using Golden brand texture pastes including fiber paste, crackle paste, absorbent ground and pumice. Image transfer and basic use of acrylic paint and blending techniques will also be covered. Students of all experiences are encouraged to take this class to learn a new form of painting. There is a supply list provided upon registering for the class. Students are welcome to bring a lunch each day of the class.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Micah Goguen grew up in Central Georgia and obtained his B.A. in Art from Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville. Micah continued studies in figure drawing and painting at Kennesaw University and lived in the Atlanta area for 7 years producing and showing art at local venues. Residing currently in Macon, Ga., Micah focuses primarily on bringing art to the community and using art as a form of communication for those struggling to under stand and cope with life situations. He is currently obtaining his Masters in Art Therapy.
Stationed primarily at The Perry Art Center in Perry, Ga. and The St. Francis Art Center in Macon, Ga. , Goguen produces work while teaching art to both adults and children. He also volunteers time at the local community center and works with adults in alcohol and substance recovery as well as uprooted and traumatized children. Goguen also teaches a variety of classes at Kudzu Art Zone in Norcross, Ga. Using mural work, art for entertainment and art therapy for healing, Goguen collaborates with school systems, local shops, and non profits to help unify and most importantly “spread a message”.
Micah’s own artwork conveys his interest in people as he uses oil paints to mostly create expressive portraits. Bold color choices and organic movement signify his style and you can most often expect a large confrontational composition that forces the viewer to take notice and interact. Micah works in a range of media and teaches workshops in Oil and Acrylic Painting, Ceramics, Textiles and Drawing. He is working on several mural projects and also founded a group of artists which hang and display art in privately owned local businesses. The overall vision is to focus and rededicate back to a buy local, shop local mentality that strengthens community through unity and purpose.
