ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Picture
Joyce enjoys painting nature in watercolors to create a loose translation of the subject. Her representational impressionist style is noted for dramatic lighting and clean colors. Her works may be seen at ArtWorks in Hiawassee and Art N’ Antiques Etc. in Blairsville. Her works are also exhibited at Brasstown Valley Resort, Blue Ridge Mountains Art Center, and Helen Arts & Heritage Center.
Joyce began painting seriously in the early 1990’s with classes at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C. Later she painted weekly for 2 years with Dr. Morris Green of the Maryland College of Art & Design. Joyce also attended workshops with Frank Webb, Zoltan Szabo, Skip Lawrence, and Tom Lynch.  Her works are influenced by the watercolor master, Ed Whitney (1891-1987).
Joyce shares her enthusiasm for watercolor painting with students. Her beginner watercolor series are held at ArtWorks, Blue Ridge Art Center, and Helen Art & Heritage Center. Joyce encourages students to be bold and fearless as mistakes can usually be fixed. Joyce demonstrates tips to control watercolor but also how to allow watercolor to flow on paper for beautiful and spontaneous results.
Joyce hosts a “Wine, Women, and Watercolor Party” for non-painters to complete a painting step-by-step while socializing with friends. Another fun class for non-painters is “Alcohol Ink on Ceramic Tile”. Joyce demonstrates easy techniques to create four colorful ceramic coasters for your home or for gifts.
Joyce is a member of Mountain Regional Arts & Crafts Guild, Mountain Arts Association, Southern Appalachian Artist Guild, North Georgia Arts Guild, and Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association.
