Beginning
September 18 & 19, 2018, Tuesday & Wednesday, 2 Session
Instructor: Mary Kaye Bailey
1:00pm-3:00pm
Class Fee:   $40.00 non-members + $8.00 Supply Fee
                     $36.00 BRMAA member + $8.00 Supply Fee
What a great opportunity to learn a lost art.  The students will learn beginning tatting skills using a shuttle and thread, to include the primary double stitch, making picots, closing the tatting ring and joining a new thread.  The projects include a tatted edging that can be used as an embellishing lace to be sewn on pillow cases, garments, table linens, baby clothes and used in mixed media.  The Instructor will show the techniques of winding a tatting shuttle bobbin.  There will be handouts for future tatting projects and step-by-step instructions.  This class will be great for the students who enjoy fiber arts projects.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Picture
Mary Kaye Bailey is a recently retired Physical Therapist Assistant.  She and her husband have been visiting the Blue Ridge area for the last 35 years and have recently become full time residents upon retirement.
Mary Kaye has a passion for fine hand stitchery and enjoys making custom baby and child garments with her tatting, hand embroidery, and French machine sewing.  She has been tatting for over 30 years having been taught by dear family friends.  Hand embroidery was learned at her grandmother’s side more than 50 years ago.  She believes we all continue to learn as we seek those opportunities.  Her fine hand sewing continues to evolve with the use of newly learned stitches and various threads.
