1:00 pm-4:00 pm
Instructor: Jonathan Hargus
Class Fee:   $30.00 non-members

                     $30.00 BRMAA members
This is a class in the Art Center’s Appalachian Cultural Crafts Series.  It is important to pass the historical information that honor past generations and encourage new generations to explore the old ways that are soon becoming extinct. This Beekeeping class is a brief look that teaches methods of old and what makes North Georgia Beekeeping unique, followed by what Beekeeping methods of today and why it’s not as easy as it used to be.  The class will cover why Beekeeping is a lost/dying art that must be reinvented for modern times.  The student will learn what methods work, and which ones do not and why.  They will also learn the real reasons why the bees are dying so new beekeepers can avoid the common pitfalls.  Through the details and methods taught in this class, Beekeepers can have hives that thrive.  The Instructor will inspire the students to expand not only in knowledge of beekeeping but to embellish the hives in artistic painting.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Instructor
Jonathan Hargus has been beekeeping since 2002. Working with thousands of bee hives through the years, he has seen what works and what doesn’t. He believes that conventional methods of beekeeping are contributing to the decline of honey bees everywhere. As a result, he has developed practices that work with the bees to keep them healthy, happy, and thriving.
