 American Sign Language-Level 1 

Beginning
March 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29, 2018 (Thursday) 5 Sessions
4:30 pm-6:00 pm

Class Fee:   $50.00 non-members

The First of two 5-week courses, the Students will examine Deaf culture and grammar as well as vocabulary associated with greetings, numbers, health, weather, family and friends.  School routines will be covered by describing places and things within the school setting.  This 5-week session will be a good start on educating Student in Deaf culture.  The class supply list purchased by the student includes; “The America Sign Language Phrase Book” 3rd edition by Lou Fant and Barbara Bernstein Fant.  The book is priced on Amazon for $13.47.  The Instructor also recommends Barron’s “500 Flash Cards of American Sign Language” by Geoffrey S. Poor. The flash cards are priced on Amazon for $22.41.  The flash cards are not a requirement for the class.  The first 5 sessions are for beginning American Sign Language.

You may pay via PayPal above, over the phone, or visit The Art Center located at 420 West Main Street, Blue Ridge, GA 30513 to pay in person. The Programming Coordinator is in the office from 10 am - 6pm on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS

Becky Ferrell holds two degrees in a Master of Education degree in Educational Interpreting and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology: Deaf Studies, both from the Temple Tennessee University.  She started her a part-time career as an American Sign Language teacher with online courses for Piedmont International University, NC.  She works as a missionary for two summers at Camp SummerSign (CSS) – Brentwood Baptist Deaf Church (2010-2011).  She loves teaching ASL and working with children.  Now, she makes her home in Blue Ridge with her husband. Her heart is to reach people and share love in this community and to help them to learn American Sign Language to communicate with others.
