ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Painting is a way of expressing myself that I find irresistible. To express the feeling of a scene, whether it is the landscape, a still life of my favorite things, or a posing figure, I strive to create a mood that the viewer can visualize through my painting.
When I found encaustics, I found my medium. Even though I paint in oils and pastels, the encaustic paint is so exciting. The unpredictability captures me as I pursue the journey through my painting. I love to create abstracts with wax and watch the colors flow and merge and take on various shapes. The excitement for me though is to take a landscape, still life or figure and let the wax express my vision in a loose layered pool of glorious color trying to coax out the realism. Nothing can compare to the torch and hot wax.
I was awarded a Member of Excellence in the Southeastern Pastel Society giving me signature status. I paint in different mediums, including pastel, oil, encaustic, mixed media and collage.
I have also been featured in the ebook (Part 1) by Linda Robertson "Embracing Encaustics part 1 & 2" for her techniques in using the encaustic medium. The book is a detailed encyclopedia of techniques that the author has compiled from artists she juried. The book is a must have to all encaustic artists.
Landscape and figurative paintings are among the many subjects I paint. You can find my work at the Blue Ridge Mountain Art Center and on my blog sallyarnoldart.blogspot.com.
