Before a surgeon starts to cut, she knows her tools well. Before a photographer begins editing an image, she likewise needs to be familiar with the basic tools in the Photoshop “tool shed”. In this class, we will start with understanding how to read the “behind-the-scenes” data (file format, resolution, etc.) that makes or breaks your image before you even get it to the computer. We will then assess and evaluate our images by learning how to read histograms, channels and the very important Info Panel in order to determine whether or not our images are good or bad candidates for editing. Having covered those bases, we move into the fundamentals of making global and targeted adjustments within a non-destructive workflow using basic selection tools and techniques.
